Outspoken Ministry of Defense Principal Secretary Major General (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa on Monday left Department of Defense headquarters after just two months.
Kihalangwa, formerly Director Immigration and PS in the same department, handed over duties to Dr Ibrahim Mohamed, who becomes third PS in the department under two years.
Maj Gen Kihalangwa replaced long serving PS Saitoti Torome, who was transferred to planning by President Uhuru Kenyatta in August following government changes.
"Outgoing Ministry of Defence Principal Secretary Maj Gen (Rtd) Dr. Gordon Kihalangwa today handed over to the incoming Principal Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed at the Defence Headquarters," DoD reported.
Questions have been asked as to why he was hurriedly moved from Department of Defense headquarters, despite having been a career soldier.
While making the changes early this month, President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted that they were informed by his urge to improve service delivery.
“In order to enhance efficiency and service delivery, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya and the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces Uhuru Kenyatta has made the following changes in Government affecting Principal Secretaries,” State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena announced.
Kihalangwa's last official event at the Ministry of Defense was last Wednesday when he organised the Kenya Defense Forces pass out parade at RTS in Eldoret.
He will now head to the ministry of Public Works. Kihalangwa first hit headlines during the controversial deportation of lawyer Miguna Miguna in 2018.
