Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba has revealed that electoral rules used to clear Macdonald Mariga were formulated by a committee chaired by Siaya Senator James Orengo and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
In a tweet on Monday, Murkomen stated that ODM party leaders are decrying Mariga's clearance by IEBC because it is not favouring them.
"After 2016 NASA protests Parl. Committee was formed chaired by Orengo & Kiraitu. I was member. We changed election laws to make it easy to register voters & reverse K. Kilonzo case. We segregated registers & Introduced electronic registers. ODM are crying coz it’s benefited Mariga. Appalling," he said in a tweet.
Murkomen was reacting after a section of ODM leaders led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo faulted IEBC after clearing Mariga to vie for the vacant Kibra parliamentary seat.
"Listening to the pontifications and prevarications of the IEBC commissioners; it is clear to me, more than before, that we must sweep the commission clean at the top levels!" Amollo wrote on Twitter.
The IEBC tribunal headed by Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared that Mariga is a registered voter despite his details missing on the voter's register of 2017.
Mariga, who has been presented the nomination certificate from the IEBC will now go back to the ground to haunt for voters.
