Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama was attending to a private issue and was not at home when DP William Ruto visited the county, a source has said.

On Saturday last week, Deputy President William Ruto took a swipe at the governor, wondering why he chose to skip a function at his local church.

Dr Ruto was the chief guest in the fundraiser for Tente SDA Church, where Nyagarama and his family worship. The church is 300 meters away from his residence.

The DP accused ODM leadership of allegedly threatening and intimidating Nyagarama, arguing that such approach is backward and primitive.

"I am shocked that the governor is not around. His home is just 300 meters from here. But I understand the fear in him. He shouldn't fear them," he said.

But according to the source, Nyagarama was attending to an urgent family matter thus his decision to skip the function at the church.

"He had some personal matters he was handling and wasn't actually around. I don't know why people are making this a big deal," he said in confidence.

He added: "And even so, it's not mandatory to attend such events. I think the media should give him humble time. It's not something worthy to waste energy on."

Dr Ruto was visiting the region for the second time in a space of 12 hours. In Friday, he pitched tent at Ekerenyo region in North Mugirango constituency.
