US-based law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has defended himself from mockery that none of his prediction has ever turned out to be true.
It started after he predicted that Deputy President William Ruto will resign from government before Jubilee administration finishes its term in 2022.
In a tweet on Monday, Makau claimed the DP was planning to tender his resignation to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and use his exit from government to launch an onslaught against his opponents.
"I predict DP William Ruto will resign from government abruptly and without warning. Methinks he’s laid his plans. The timing will be a thunderbolt — to paralyze opponents and maximize his exit. Jipange! (Be alert)," he posted.
Reacting to the sentiments, renowned lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi mocked the law scholar, claiming none of his so many prophecies about Ruto has ever been fulfilled.
"Prof has a long history of predictions that goes back decades on all matters DP Ruto...none...none...none...came close..." the Senior Counsel said.
In a rejoinder, Makau defended himself saying he predicted that Jubilee will collapse and that Uhuru and Ruto will divorce, which he said has all happened.
"No true, GM (Grand Mullah). I predicted Jubilee was nonsense on stilts and would collapse. It has. That UK and Ruto would part. They have. That’s two, but there’s more," he stated.
Makau was referring to an opinion piece he wrote in December, 2012, after Uhuru's The National Alliance (TNA) and Ruto's United Republican Party (URP) joined hands in readiness for the 2013 presidential election.
He described the coalition as 'nonsense on stilts' and predicted Uhuru and Ruto will break up for what he termed as fear for each other.
"I bet if they slept in the same bedroom, none would fall asleep for fear of the other. I’ve no doubt they can’t govern together even if they were elected," he stated.
