A 72-year-old man from Marakwet West was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly defiling his 6-year-old grand daughter.

William Kibor, commonly known as Nyayo, is said to have defiled the minor at his house in Kapchesewes on Monday.

Confirming the incident, area deputy police boss Anthony Muriuki, said he girl had been left in the care of the suspect as her mother ran some errands.

Muriuki noted the suspect has been detained at Kapsowar police station as the police continue with investigations.

“We have taken the young girl to Kapsowar Mission Hospital for medical examination,” said Muriuki.

“Our officers are still interrogating the suspect,” he added.

The deputy poll boss said the suspect was rescued by police officers after angry residents attempted to lynch him after the child’s mother suspected he had defiled her daughter.

“He was rescued by police who responded to the protests over the same,” Muriuki said.
