Lawyer Miguna Miguna has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for winning the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a tweet, Miguna said that Ahmed deserves the award because of the exemplary work he has done to bring peace in different parts of the world. 

He noted that the PM has changed the lives of millions through his works, adding that he merited for the award. 

“Well deserved, Abiy Ahmed. Vision and Integrity wins all the time. Congratulations,” he tweeted

Ahmed was given the award for ensuring an end to the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The two countries have been in conflict for more than 20 years. 

“The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali,” a statement from the Academy quoted by Citizen Digital reads.

It is estimated that Ahmed will pocket Sh93,420,000 ($900,000) after he appears for the event in Oslo on December 10. 

The announcement was made on Friday by Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. 

Leaders from different parts of the world have already started to send their messages to congratulate Ahmed for the award. 

He joins Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Albert Luthuli, the late Wangari Maathai, the late Nelson Mandela, the late Kofi Annan, Desmond Tutu and Wole Soyinka among those who have won the award.
