A family in Kakamega County is mourning their son, after a man committed suicide on Friday, in Malava on what the family termed as an altercation with his estranged wife after she failed to return instead, opted to spend the bus fare under the guise of school fees.
According to TV47, the family said that the wife had quarreled with her late husband, Saul Anenje before she ran away.
The family claims that their son asked the alienated wife to return only for her to abuse him, a thing the infuriated the late who decided to take his life following the altercation.
"The man send her fare to return home. She spent the money and never turned up. She stayed away for long and sneaked back when her husband was at work. She took the kids and her belongings and fled," John Buluma, a neighbor said.
It was a result of the late seeing that the wife didn't return or send back his children, that angered him.
"The deceased came to my house and borrowed me a phone to call her wife. Instead her wife answered him with disgust, arguing that she had sent the kids to school and even abused him. He got angry banged the phone on the table and went out. I thought he was going to work. That is when he went to his house, took a rope and committed suicide," Agnes Anenje, the mother to the deceased said.
It is believed that the deceased send the fare three times in attempt to woo back her wife, but this could not excite her.
"He first sent Sh800, then Sh200 and another Sh200 for one child to return home and go to the nearest school. The wife told him the amount he sent will make her return next year,"the area chief George Maina told TV47.
It is reported that the wife to the deceased, Beatrice Nanyama fled her matrimonial home on November last year.
