Kadenge died on Sunday at Meridian Hospital in Nairobi West where he had been admitted after suffering a stroke.

The former football star may have died but his memories still live on.

One of the most interesting moments of Kadenge’s career was when he ‘vowed’ never to play for Kenya again.

BBC journalist John Nene, who is the author of Kadenge’s autobiography, once narrated how the star was angered by his teammates’ behaviour in one of the matches.

According to Kadenge’s autobiography which is titled ‘Joe Kadenge: The Life of a Football Legend’, he had arrived from Sudan in 1965 when he swore never to play for his national team.

“He said he was annoyed with the behaviour portrayed by his football mates. One of his teammates had stolen a 007 underpants of his colleague. He was so upset. He could not stomach that. He said he also saw colleagues stealing bed sheets,” Nene said as quoted by the Standard.

The autobiography which discloses most of Kadenge’s life as a footballer had been scheduled to be launched in 2010 but it was launched 5 years later in 2015 by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
