Residents of Makundi village in Kimutwa, Machakos County were reeling in shock on Tuesday evening, after a 28-year-old man allegedly hacked his mother and niece to death.
According to Kyanzasu Assistant chief Jennifer Muinde, the man arrived home and caused drama, after he was asked why he fried eggs without permission.
Muinde said the man went and came back an hour later with a sharp panga, which he allegedly used to attack his mother aged 70 years, and his niece.
"According to the report I got, the young man arrived at their home and found his family where he caused a melee," said Muinde on phone.
"It's at that time that he took a sharp panga and hacked his mother and his brother's daughter to death. The motive is still unknown," she added.
She confirmed that the suspect managed to escape, adding that the police have launched investigations and a manhunt for him, in a bid to bring him to book.
She urged families to find amicable solutions to their problems instead of resulting to violence.
The bodies of the two were taken to Machakos level five hospital mortuary.
