Kitui County Deputy Governor Wathe Nzau has hinted that leaders in the region have held talks with MCAs in the three assemblies to oppose the bill.

Speaking to journalists during a function at Miambani area in Makueni County on Sunday, Wathe stated that the Punguza Mizigo referendum bill has no intention of reducing the economic weight felt by the common mwananchi.

“We are not supporting Punguza Mizigo, and we have talked with our assemblies of Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos to oppose the Pungua Mizigo bill," Wathe stated.

The Kitui Deputy Governor, however, suggestively remarked that Ukambani leaders will support the BBI initiative which is fronted by ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We are waiting for the BBI report which we know has collected views from all Kenyans across the 47 counties,” Wathe added.

His statement was echoed by Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo who said that the weight on Kenyans could only be reduced if corruption is fought to the core in the country.

“A big chunk of Kenyan money is being lost through corruption, not through the working class,” Maanzo reiterated.

The Punguza Mizigo initiative is a referendum bill fronted by the Thirdway Alliance party and championing for the slashing of the country's leadership positions.
