In a tweet on Wednesday, Mr Havi vowed to ensure that rogue law enforcement officers and their bosses are brought to justice.

''Under my stewardship, the Law Society of Kenya will take a firm position in the defence of the rule of law and constitutionalism. Even rough cops and their masters will be held accountable to the law " the lawyer said in his Wednesday tweet.

His pitch to deal with rogue officers come amid reports in the media of human rights abuses allegedly committed by police officers, especially during protests.

In the lead up to the disputed 2017 elections, human rights organisations accused the police of perpetrating human rights abuses against opposition supporters.

A Human Rights Watch (HRW) report chronicled abuses that were allegedly committed by the police and tactics that were used to silence activists who sought to bring the said abuses to the attention of the police.

Ensuring that rogue officers are held accountable for their actions is still an ongoing concern.

The killing of Baby Pendo and Stephanie Moraa in the 2017 riots have cast a harsh light on the police.
