Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has sounded a tough warning to those keen on breaching a peace deal reached to end cattle rustling in the North Rift region.
Speaking in Tiaty on Thursday during a peace initiative, Oscar Sudi said that cattle rustlers would face dire consequences going forward as the vice of cattle rustling that has ravaged the region would no longer be tolerated.
"We don't want to be called thieves again as Pokot and Marakwet communities (Hatutaki kuitwa tena waizi kati ya Pokot na Marakwet as a community)," the Kapseret Member of Parliament said.
The outspoken legislator, who is a staunch supporter of Deputy President Dr William Ruto, said that those dabbling in the cattle rustling menace would be dealt with as individuals as the communities from which they come would not take responsibility for their vices.
Leaders from the North Rift region have been engaged in efforts aimed at pacifying the region whose culmination was the signing of a peace deal.
Efforts by successive administrations to rid the region of banditry have fallen flat.
It is hoped that the diplomatic approach embraced by the leaders will yield the results that law enforcement tactics have failed to achieve.
