Embattled Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu will remain remanded pending the hearing of his bail review at the High court.
On Wednesday, Waititu filed an application at the High court seeking a review of the Sh15 million bail slapped on him by the Magistrate's court in the alleged Sh588 million irregular tender case.
Milimani High Court Judge John Onyiengo directed that Waititu’s application be heard on Friday this week.
In his application, Waititu through his lawyer Tom Ojienda argues that the bail terms slapped on his client are excessive.
“The bail and bond terms are excessive and amount to a constructive denial of bail and bond without compelling reasons,” Ojienda says in the application.
Waititu in his application further criticised an order barring him from accessing his Kiambu office. He notes that the order violates his constitutional rights as elected governor.
On Tuesday, Waitutu, his wife Susan Wangari and six other county officials pleaded not guilty to graft charges among them, abuse office.
In his bail ruling, Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi slapped Waititu with Sh30 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh15 million.
Governor Waititu's wife was slapped with Sh10 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh4 million which she has since paid.
Waititu spent Tuesday night at Industrial Area Prison while his wife spent the night at Lang'ata Women’s Prison.
