Police officers in Murang'a County are probing an incident in which a woman allegedly hacked her son to death in Kigetuini village in Kiharu Sub County under unclear circumstances
The suspect, 41, is currently in police custody after committing the heinous act.
Confirming the incident, Murang’a East OCPD Alex Muasya said that the suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with murder.
Preliminary reports indicate that the woman hacked the one-and-half-year-old son to death before she dumped the body in a pit latrine.
Sarah Wambui, who reportedly witnessed the incident, told the police that she got concerned after she visited the home of the woman and found she had hidden an axe believed to have been used for the act under the bed.
She also said that the woman, who happens to be her aunt, told her not to inform anyone about the incident
“She is my aunt. I found her trying to hide the axe after hacking her own child to death. She warned me not to say a word before she rushed to the latrine and dumped the baby before fleeing,” Wambui said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
She also said that she ran away with the remaining two children after she suspected that the suspect would kill them as well.
It also emerged that the suspect had threatened to kill the child before birth.
