Chief Administrative Officer Rachael Shebesh has hit out at critics who have questioned her association with Team Embrace, a political grouping of women leaders in support of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Garissa during an Embrace event on Saturday, the former woman rep rejected the criticism, saying her involvement in the activities of the group is an opportunity to engage with the public at the grassroots level.
"There are people asking why I am associating myself with Embrace, alleging that Iam not doing government work. I want to tell them that it was a must that I come with officers because the government's work is to tell people at the grassroot how it is going to help them (Kuna watu wananiambia ati nikitembea na Embrace, sifanyi kazi ya serikali. Nataka kuwaambia opportunity kama hii ya leo lazima ningekuja na officers na lazima niongee kwa sababu kazi ya serikali ni kuambia watu mashinani vile serikali inaweza kuwasaidia), " she said.
Rachael Shebesh has come under a constant barrage of criticism from leaders who are part of Inua Mama, another political grouping of women leaders supporting Deputy President Dr William Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
Her Inua Mama critics have accused her of abandoning government work as a chief administrative officer for politics and have publicly called on President Uhuru to sack her.
