In an interview with NTV on Monday, Manyora said that the Head of State is could remain in politics even after he completes his second term in power. He retorted that Uhuru is young, adding that the Mt Kenya region needs him.

"I highly doubt that come 2022 Uhuru will go home to Ichaweri," he said. He also said that Uhuru's decision to work with ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga left behind a message. Manyora said that he is certain Uhuru and Raila will form the next government.

"When the handshake happened, I looked at the whole arrangement and concluded that come 2022, Kenya will have Raila and Uhuru ruling the state," he said. On Friday, Uhuru hinted at remaining in active politics. He said that he has no problem being a Prime Minister.

“I do not know the contents of the BBI report yet. I hear people claiming Uhuru Kenyatta wants to become the prime minister of Kenya. I wouldn’t mind being in leadership in such a post, though let us deal with the current situation first,” he said, as quoted by the Standard.

The President also asked the leaders from the region to back the handshake.
