Former Nation Media Group CEO Joe Muganda on Tuesday resigned as Vivo Energy group Managing Director, two years after taking over.
Muganda will now be replaced by Peter Murungi. Muganda joined the energy giants in 2017 following the exit of Polycarp Igathe.
Igathe had been elected as Nairobi Deputy Governor, a post he vacated months later after differing with Governor Mike Sonko.
His appointment at Vivo had been welcome by Executive Vice Chairman David Mureithi, who said his experience in the corporate world would help the company grow.
"I am delighted to welcome Mr Muganda as the new managing director Vivo Energy Kenya. When he joins in February, his vast experience will bring added value...allowing the company to build on its previous successes, as he steers the company to meet its ambitious goals," Mureithi had said in a statement.
Before joining Nation Media Group in 2015, Muganda had worked at East Africa Breweries Company, which he still has an interest in.
During his exit from Nation, NMG chairman Wilfred Kiboro said Muganda had “aggressively driven our product portfolio review, presided over a general restructuring and re-oriented the business to seize the opportunities presented by the digital disruption in the media sector”.
“He will leave a leaner, nimbler organisation whose future commercial success is already evident in the positive trajectory of returns from the investments in digital initiatives,” said Kiboro. “We wish him well in his future pursuits.”
