President Uhuru Kenyatta has conceded that he's 'embarrassed in the manner at which his government has handled SME sector'.
In a confession-like conversation at Strathmore University on Tuesday, Uhuru further claimed that his government is 'big let down' to the sector, adding that no amount of excuses can redeem the matter.
"I am quite embarrassed to stand before you and talk about this topic. I have let you down and this is something I can't make excuses," he said.
He went on: "As politicians, we make promises but after elections, we disappeared. We must come back at face these issues as they are."
For a moment, he paraded Governor Mike Sonko and Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, tasking them to explain why the sewage system at Gikomba market was deplorable.
And contrary to the traditions, Uhuru refused to read a speech prepared for the occasion, insisting that it would embarrass him.
"I will not read this speech. I don't want to lie to people. It's time we accepted our failure and rectified immediately."
