The new proposal comes at the height of a heated discussion as tp whether a Kenyan should succeed the late Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore who passed away early last month.

According to a report by the Standard, there has been a conflict of interest among the major shareholders in the company on who should take up the position of the company's CEO.

The shareholders were notified of an Annual General Meeting at the company set to beheld on August 30 regarding proposals to amend the Company’s Articles of Association. The proposals seek to increase the number of directors from 10 to 11.

The Company’s Articles of Association allows for a minimum of seven directors and a maximum of 11.

“Unless and until otherwise from time to time determined by a special resolution of the company, the number of directors (excluding alternates) shall not be less than seven (7) nor more than eleven (11) in number and shall include independent non-executive directors a majority of who shall be of Kenyan citizenship,” read the announcement.
