Kiambu Deputy Governor James Karanja Nyoro is expected to take the oath of office as the governor of Kiambu today. This is after the planned swearing-in was postponed on Thursday.
The Judiciary had cited unavoidable circumstances before the cancellation of the event. Kiambu County Secretary Martin Mbugua has confirmed that the function will take place at the Kiambu County Headquarters from 10 am after the incumbent Governor Waititu’s impeachment by the Kiambu County Assembly was also upheld by the Senate on Wednesday evening.
Waititu was looking up to the Senate to save his career before the house turned against him and voted to impeach him from the position.
“It is notified for information of the general public that the swearing-in ceremony of James Karanja Nyoro, as the Governor of Kiambu County, shall take place on Friday, 31st January 2020, at Kiambu County Headquarters, starting at 10.00 a.m,” reads the notice.
The swearing-in comes after the spirited fight of the county boss, who is also nicknamed Babayao, came to a tragic end. The High Court judge John Onyiego had been expected to preside over the event before the cancellation took place.
Waititu had moved to court to block the swearing-in of the DG as Governor but the court declined the same.
