Mariga, a former international soccer player, has since been endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to go for the seat in the much anticipated by-election set for November 7.

But speaking hours after the endorsement, the former Lang'ata parliamentary aspirant rubbished claims that Mariga was settled on by the Jubilee party as a whole.

He said Mariga hails from Deputy President William Ruto's side, linking him to Ruto's former party; the United Republican Party (URP), adding that he is being forced on the others.

"Jubilee doesn't have a candidate, its URP (Jubilee haijasimamisha mtu, URP ndio imesimamisha)," he said on Radio Citizen's Jungu Kuu, Wednesday night, hosted by Kamau Munyua.

Asked how the President would then proceed to receive Mariga at State House as was seen on Wednesday, he claimed the president is bound by his position to embrace any Kenyan.

"As the president of Kenya he can welcome anyone. He is the president of all parties that merged into Jubilee. (Kama rais wa Kenya anaweza kukaribisha mtu yeyote. Yule ni rais wa vyama vyote na anaheshimu vyama vyote vilivyoingia Jubilee)," he added.
