The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is not a flower girl to clap as the government forcefully implements the Competency-Based-Curriculum (CBC), Wilson Sossion has said.
Sossion, the KNUT secretary general, accused Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha of being a bully and using force to implement the new curriculum.
“Magoha is very arrogant and we tell the president that we can't work with him,” Sossion said.
The vocal unionist said that the country does not have the capacity to implement the CBC and Magoha is engaging in a futile mission.
“CBC exists in the mind of Magoha. We are the teachers and we know there is no capacity to roll out the form of training. The current teachers are trained for at least two years, how can you then train teachers for one day and say they are fit to teach the new curriculum?” Sossion said.
He added: “We are a labour movement and not flower girls, we will not allow Ivory Towers policymakers without knowledge of what is happening in our education system to mislead Kenyans.”
The secretary-general addressed the media a day after CS Magoha held a meeting at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development on Wednesday where he launched the National Curriculum Policy.
While launching the policy, CS Magoha said he will deal with anyone opposing CBC.
"I don't play politics and will crush anybody who will play politics with the new curriculum," Magoha said.
