The two protagonists have been going offensive against each other with both expected to contest in 2022 presidential election. Raila is yet to declare.

At Ekerenyo on Monday, Ruto blamed Raila for persistent attacks targeting him, arguing that the former Prime Minister is a big stumbling block to development.

"I want to tell those opposed to do that we shall not stop. They opposed Eurobond, Northern Collector Tunnel, SGR and now they are not happy when they see us around.

"Infact, he wants Kenyans to remain poor so that he can take advantage against them when it comes to voting. We shall ensure that the Lord of poverty kingdom is brought down," said Ruto.

Dr Ruto insisted that his trips across Kenya have a blessing from President Uhuru Kenyatta. He said that the government is keen to deliver on its promises.

His visit to Nyamira comes three days before Raila's meeting with Gusii leaders. The former PM is set to host delegates from Kisii and Nyamira Counties on Thursday in Nairobi.

Mr Odinga has backed the law capping donations to various social functions, a move that has seemingly rattled the Deputy President.

At Nyamira, Dr Ruto was accompanied by Joash Nyamoko, Shadrack Mose, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Maangi, Ezekiel Mochogu, Sylvanus Osoro among other leaders.
