1. The Garissa Community Giraffe sanctuary (GCGS)

It is characterized by a huge population of giraffes.

They are mostly spotted relaxing with their necks high on the beautiful adjacent acacia trees. Sometimes the giraffes go to drink water at the same areas where local women go to fetch water.

This is a nice tourist attraction site and has made Garissa town to attract both local and foreign tourists.

Its stone throw distance from Garissa town and the fact that it boarders Tana River to the south has made hundreds of tourists to flock the area monthly.

2.The Arawale National Reserve

It is attractive due to its thorny nature and it is home to zebras, cheetahs and other wildlife species.

Despite being almost 80km from Garissa town, tourists visit it regularly to enjoy looking at the nice flat plain and wildlife species.

Besides, it boarders the Tana River and its large surface area make it accessible from both directions.

3.Boni national reserve

It is located at the Kenya-Somalia border and was named after the Boni tribe which was traditionally a hunting tribe.

A lot of bird species dwell in the area due to its wet nature.

Tourists like visiting the reserve to get a view of the various bird species.

However, in recent times, the level of insecurity at the Kenya-Somalia border has led to a decline in the number of tourists visiting the area.

Garissa town can be accessed from Nairobi through the Thika-Garissa highway: a journey that features several stopovers due to the long distance.

It can also be accessed via air since Garissa has Garissa airport which serves small flights.
