Siaya Senator James Orengo is one of the most anticipated leaders to go for the gubernatorial seat in the approaching general elections.
Most likely to win judging by his popularity and the admiration he enjoys in the region, Orengo's tenure would be full of both negative and positive consequences, both for him and the county.
Should he vie and win, Orengo who doubles up as a famed Senior Counsel will have to shelve one job for the other.
Should he decide to concentrate on his job at the helm of the county, then he is most likely to lose his current legal fame, and is also set to be an absentee leader should he decide to hold both.
This will be a negative move for his constituents, considering that the gubernatorial seat demands constant presence of the governor for better service delivery.
Also, as a Governor, Orengo will have somehow gagged himself politically, and will therefore be rendered politically silent, and unable to air his political opinions and views as is the situation now.
He will both be very busy with his executive roles and will as well have taken away his current political freedom where he has severally gone on record attacking fellow politicians, especially the ones opposed to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
For instance, he was recently quoted attacking his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen for linking Raila to the Mau Forest evictions.
Finally, holding the county chief post, he will be only a step to the Luo kingpin post, a position currently enjoyed held by Raila.
