An MP allied to the Wiper party has declared his interest in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
Ali Mbogo (Kisauni, Wiper) said on Sunday that he envisages at replacing Governor Hassan Joho when his term ends in 2022.
Joho is serving his last term and looks forward to contesting for the presidency in 2022.
"I have the trust of the people of Mombasa and I also have everything it takes to lead Mombasa. The journey has just begun," he said in Kisauni a day after Deputy President William Ruto toured the constituency.
The MP is among leaders in Mombasa who fully support Ruto's presidential bid in 2022 and has expressed confidence the DP will take over the country's leadership.
Mbogo went against the NASA fraternity's principals and backed Ruto for the presidency.
Kalonzo, his party leader, has also said he will vie for the country's top seat in 2022.
During Ruto's Saturday visit to Kisauni, Mbogo said he would go along the way campaigning for Ruto in Mombasa and in extension Coast region when official campaigns kick off.
Among MPs who have defied their respective NASA leaders and supported Ruto, besides Mbogo, is Malindi's Aisha Jumwa who was elected on an ODM party ticket.
Ruto has since the conclusion of the October 26th repeat election visited Coast region more than five times.
