Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has voiced her support for Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji's idea of body cameras for traffic cops.
In a tweet on Thursday, she said that providing cameras to traffic police will help in curbing corruption on roads and undue arrests.
Passaris also suggested that cameras should be put at police stations counters, to follow how police on duty offer their services to those in need.
"Brilliant idea to curb corruption on the highways, reduce carnage & undue arrests. Cameras should also be placed on duty officers manning station counters starting with the SGBV desk officers to improve on service delivery & inform training needs," said Passaris
This comes after DPP Haji urged Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to provide traffic cops with body cameras in order to ease investigations on those that tend to break the law on the road.
DPP Haji said that it has been hard to know the actual facts of events as in most of this cases, the investigation is relied on the police and the accused word of mouth.
DPP Haji has revealed that through the issuing of body cameras, the police on duty can always record those breaking the law and present it as evidence.
