Even with the ongoing investigations, a plot has been hatched by MPs loyal to DP William Ruto, who accuse Dr Matiang'i of failing to perform his duties diligently, to oust him from office.

In a press statement issued by Communication Director Kefa Miller, Nyagarama regretted ongoing politics surrounding fake gold scandal, adding that there is serious witch-hunt against the minister.

"It is in the public domain that Dr Fred Matiang’i has delivered exceptionally in all the ministries that he has been tasked to head. I want to urge our politicians who are criticizing him over the issue of the fake gold scam to give him ample space to deliver on his mandate," Nyagarama said.

"We should not politicize and trivialize serious issues that are touching on ones character and reputation without evidence. Let us allow the due process to take place. Otherwise whatever negative and derogatory statements uttered against him are tantamount to witch hunt," added the county boss.

Dr Matiang'i was in February this year elevated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to chair powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee, which monitors and supervises projects across the country.

Before his elevation, there were reports that Dr Matiang'i was keen to succeed Governor Nyagarama in 2022. But since his elevation, the minister has reduced his activities within Nyamira County, a move that could prepare him for national politics.

Also, County MP Jerusha Momanyi has urged politicians to all investigations to be concluded on the matter. She accused MPs for peddling politics over the ongoing fake gold scandal.
