Last Saturday marked one of the major milestones towards cementing a possible Omogusii unity, with Nyamira chosen as the focal point.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i managed to bring on board over 30 leaders from Nyamira, whose major task now is to popularise his bid.
While Matiang'i may be a starter in politics, he could be banking on the support as a way of increasing bargaining power in 2022.
But despite a number of leaders joining his camp, former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati has not shown up in any of the meetings presided over by Matiang'i.
"I am focused to deliver gubernatorial seat in 2022. I don't know much about the said unity because as Abagusii, we are not divided," he said.
Also absent from Matiang'i's caravan is Nyambati's successor, Timothy Bosire, who also doubles as ODM national treasurer. He's a key ally of Raila Odinga.
Last Friday at Miriri, Mr Bosire seemed to read from a different script, arguing that his main intention is to popularise the ODM party.
"We are a democratic country and leaders have a right to make their own choices. As ODM, we are ready to bring on board those who may wish to join us," he said.
Others include former EALA MP Kiangoi Ombasa and former assistant minister James Gesami. The two were at one point in ODM before walking separate ways.
Dr Matiang'i, who depends a lot on handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, may at one point be forced to work with Bosire, a crucial figure in Raila's kitchen cabinet.
