Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday snubbed a host of youth campaigners allied to his Tanga Tanga team, fresh details have now emerged.
Dr Ruto was the chief guest during the third graduation ceremony at Kisii National Polytechnic, and had been scheduled to meet the team.
But a source privy to the arrangements, says Dr Ruto cancelled the plans, leaving the youths stranded at an hotel in Kisii Town.
"We had planned for a meeting with the DP and his handlers confirmed it. We had a number of campaigners from Kisii and Nyamira Counties," he said.
"We were only told very late that the meeting could not take place and no reason was given. But we are aware of infighting with some of our leaders," he added.
During the graduation, Dr Ruto's security team blocked one of the youth who tried to make his way to main dais as Ruto said 'just leave what you're doing, I'll meet you some other day'.
However, Tanga Tanga youth leader Ben Mogaka on Tuesday denied the claims, arguing that the team was only planning to receive the DP once he arrived.
"We were not snubbed. That's creation of some people. We were only waiting to receive the DP and no meeting had been planned," he said.
In September, Dr Ruto held a meeting with a host of leaders from Gusii at his Karen home where the delegation pledged to support his 2022 bid.
Last week's trip was the 23rd by Dr Ruto to Gusii region in two years. His strategists have earmarked the region as a tossup ahead of 2022 polls.
