Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has opposed the demolition of 15 schools in the Mau Forest in a bid to evict the squatters from the place. In an interview with NTV, Cheruyoit said that the move is illegal and unlawful.

He said that children need to go to school just like any other Kenyans, adding that he will not sit back and watch as the institutions are brought down. 

He affirmed that the government needs to rethink about the decision before it is too late for the local residents of the place, closing the 15 schools in the MAU was not only illegal but criminal," he said.

His remarks were echoed by his Narok Counterpart Ole Kina Ledama who said that the demolition of schools. Ledama said that most of the schools are constructed by communities and even the government. 

He lamented that the demolition of the institution will be a big blow not only to the community but also the entire nation.

Ledama insisted that education is critical and the government must support it by all means.

"Most schools in Kenya have been set up by a community and after a period of time the government takes them over. Those schools are built in a trust land which we the people of Narok set it aside," he said.

The senator also said that the complainants of the land can decide to seek legal redress as opposed to eviction of the squatters from the land.
