The opposition, specifically the Orange Democratic movement (ODM), has accepted Uhuru Kenyatta as the President of Kenya, Siaya Senator James Orengo has said.
The party initially branded Uhuru an illegitimate president, over claims that he rigged its leader Raila Odinga out in the 2017 polls, before again winning in a controversial rerun.
But Orengo who is a close ally of Raila on Sunday confirmed that the former Premier has dropped the thought, especially after his March 2018 truce with Uhuru.
Orengo said that with regards to the fact that the constitution identifies Uhuru as the Head of State, then the party has no other option, and has therefore accepted him as well.
"In terms of legitimacy and the facts; we have accepted that Uhuru Kenyatta is the president of Kenya," he said on K24's Punchline show on Sunday night.
However, he noted that the party remains opposed to the process that was used to elect him, hence the push for electoral justice, one of the pillars of the truce agreement.
The lamwaker added that the opposition would not have been able to bring Uhuru on board in pursuit for changes, including electoral ones, if it was still fighting him.
"But that doesn't mean that we have accepted that process that was used," said the lawyer, who led Raila's legal team into having Uhuru's first reelection on August, 8, 2017, annulled.
