Police in Meru county are holding two suspects in relation to the murder of a Catholic priest who was killed in Makutano, Imenti North sub-county on Tuesday.
Father Eutycas Murangiri Muthuri was reportedly stabbed twice on the head, moments after leaving a hotel where he had been residing since Monday morning.
The incident was confirmed by Imenti North police boss Robinson Mboloi who said that police are holding two suspects; a man, and a woman, who had accompanied the priest to the hotel.
According to Mboloi, the priest and the two suspects were seen having drinks at one of the hotels, before spending the night in a room they had rented, after which, Muthuri was stabbed the following day.
Dominicano Muthuri, the father of the deceased, said that the assailant had been waiting for the priest inside his car parked outside, before striking.
The dad further noted that his son was in the company of a friend, one Mr Kinoti, who, took off immediately after the priest was stabbed, not bothering to help, or raise an alarm.
"Eutycas went to the car and found someone inside. He demanded to know what he was doing in the vehicle but his friend took off instead of assisting him or raising the alarm.
"We were told he earlier walked outside the building with the car keys and could have opened it for the assailant," he said as quoted by Nation.
The vehicle, a Toyota Khami was taken to Meru Police Station for investigations, while the body was moved to the Meru Level Four Hospital morgue.
