Deceased ex-Economic Planning minister Henry Obwocha was not only a close friend to Raila Odinga but also to entire Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family.
So close he was to Raila that he undertook activities along with him as Ford Kenya Young Turks during multiparty democracy struggles that saw them elected to parliament in 1992.
And in November 2016 at Borabu during the burial of advocate George Kegoro's mother, Raila openly asked Obwocha to stand and requested him to join ODM party.
"I share close memories and ties with Nyamira people. Some of you have been in struggle with my father and even myself.
"I have seen my friend Obwocha and I want to ask him to join ODM. We share a number of values since our youthful days and I think it is time we reunite," he had said.
Sadly, Obwocha did not contest any seat and was not actively involved in either NAA or Jubilee campaigns.
As a staunch Ford Kenya MP, then under Jaramogi, Obwocha declined President Daniel Moi incentives severally thus leading to his popularity in West Mugirango and Nyamira at large.
