Deputy President William Ruto has finally cleared the air on his relationship with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
The two are considered political rivals due to their political ambitions and could be possible rivals in the approaching 2022 presidential contest, though the senator is yet to announce his bid.
The situation that has since been worsened by the recent exchanges between their blocks and their inability to reach a common decision on most issues, in what is considered an ongoing battle for their vote-rich Rift Valley backyard.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with NTV from his official home in Karen, Nairobi on Sunday evening, Ruto revealed that he relates to the leader like all the other senators allied to the ruling Jubilee Party.
"Gideon relates to me like all other Jubilee Senators do. We have close to 30 senators in Jubilee and we work together, that's the nature of our relationship," said the DP.
This comes a few months after Ruto's botched attempt to meet Gideon's father, retired President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru, a scenario that landed Gideon in trouble with Ruto's allies who accused him of using his influence to block the meeting.
Asked about his take on that, however, the DP shied away from the topic, terming the embarrassing failed attempt to meet the former head of state as private and irrelevant to the public.
"That was a private issue which I will not speak about since it is of no importance and relevance to the public," he stated.
