Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei has alleged that Mau evictions are a politically instigated exercise meant to derail Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

Cherargei, together with DP Ruto's allies in Jubilee spoke on Wednesday after the release of Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng'eno and two MCAs who had been apprehended in connection to the evictions.

They accused the handshake proponents of plotting to Ruto) down politically through choreographed conspiracies.

The youthful Senator accused some 'individuals' who were keen to use every intimidating and desperate move to capture 'power' by frustrating the DP.

“It is not even about tribes or regions, but about a few individuals who are power hungry … and the issue of referendum, lifestyle audit, corruption propaganda and now the Mau issue are all targeted at one person,” said Cherargei as quoted by Daily Nation.

According to the lawmaker, the evictions were 'targeted campaigns' meant to ensure that Ruto's dream of being the head of state in 2022 does not become a reality.

He attributed the arrest, prosecution and intimidation of the DP's allies opposed to evictions to a scheme to dim his rising political star. 

The national government has embarked on an exercise to evict illegal settlers in Mau forest in a bid conserve it.
