ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that referendum push through the BBI is irresistible and wants Kenyans to vote for constitutional amendments.
Speaking at a funeral in Usenge village in Bondo, according to Nation, Raila pointed out that Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report is aimed at uniting the people of Kenya, fighting corruption, illiteracy, poverty among other ills.
"Kenyans are still stuck with the problems of poverty, illiteracy and disease 56 years since we gained independence and these are the things we plan to deal with through the BBI," he said, as quoted by Nation.
The former Prime Minister told Kenyans that it was time to start a liberation journey and break off from the chains of poverty and embrace positive thinking.
"We have begun the new journey that is geared towards finally liberating the country. The old clothes that we have been wearing must be discarded. We must embrace new thinking,” he noted while affirming that economic independence will be reached only if Kenyans unite against corruption.
According to Raila, BBI report was a tool to determine the political might of those opposing the report.
Siaya Senator James Orengo had initially said that Kenyans will go to a referendum before July.
However, Deputy President William Ruto's camp is against referendum saying that it is a waste of money which could be used on development projects.
DP Ruto insists that BBI popularisation meetings should stop because 'none' opposed the report hence no need of conducting a series of BBI meetings.
