The two were planned to visit Kisumu on August 09, 2018 to launch the Universal Health Coverage Initiative.

But a statement from Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o's press unit rubbished off the planned visit of the two leaders.

“The preparation of Kisumu County Universal Health Coverage registration activation has been surrounded by continuous rumours circulating in the media to the effect that HE President Uhuru Kenyatta would be gracing the occasion,” Citizen TV quotes a section of the statement.

“The Office of the Governor has neither been informed nor made aware of any such developments and requests that such rumours should desist forthwith,” the statement adds.

Last month, Kisumu Deputy governor Dr Mathews Owili was quoted saying that President Kenyatta will tour Kisumu to launch the Universal Health Coverage initiative.

The Head of State last visited Kisumu County ahead of the 2017 general elections, where he launched the construction of a Sh15 billion Kenya Breweries Limited plant.

Uhuru and Raila’s visit in Kisumu was expected to spice up their handshake which took place in March this year.

Since the handshake, residents of Nyanza have been warming up to Kenyatta and the entire Jubilee fraternity.
