City lawyer Charles Kanjama has expressed his frustrations after Milimani Chief Magistrate court granted bond and bail terms to two suspects charged with the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar.
Kanjama who spoke to journalists after the court ruling said that Mukhtar’s life and his family could be in danger if the suspects manage`to raise bond terms.
He said that his client is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), adding that police must now provide 24-hour security to him following the release of key suspects linked to his attempted murder.
“We are now fearing for his life (Mukhtar) and the only thing we ask the government is to ensure he and his family are safe,” he said.
Kanjama said that Mukhtar’s family’s hope for justice is slowly fading away.
“What the family wants to know about this case is the people who ordered for Mukhtar’s shooting and why they did so,” he said.
Kanjama said that he will continue pushing for justice for Mukhtar.
On Tuesday, Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi granted bond and bail to two accused persons (Mohamud Hussein Mohamed and Juliet Njoki) who are charged with attempted murder.
Andayi granted the suspects Sh1 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000.
The magistrate also ordered the accused persons to deposit their passports in court.
He ruled that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient reasons to deny the accused persons bail and bond.
Mukhtar’s attempted murder has created tension in Garissa s some politicians and clan elders openly differ on the matter.
The former CEC was shot several times in the head on August 18 in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area.
A key suspect David Mwai, who confessed to having been paid and sent to kill Mukhtar and Kanjama, died in police cells three weeks ago.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people of interest who have been questioned in relation to the attempted murder.
Korane has, however, denied having a hand in the attempted murder.
