A random vox pop conducted by Hivisasa at universities in Eldoret on Wednesday revealed that a good number of students in universities have not yet taken part in the ongoing National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) registration.
According to the students, the nation-wide exercise has a lot of concerns that need to be addressed by the government.
“The government is acquiring information from the citizens without explaining in detail what it is going to do with the information. The government needs to give us a more convincing explanation,” Erick Wanjala a third-year political science student at Moi University stated.
Some of the students are worried about the safety of the information being given out by citizens.
“How sure are we that the information we are providing will be used for the purpose that is being said. In this era of advanced technology, such personal details are not only critical but also delicate,” Benard Karanja a fourth-year student at the University of Eldoret stated.
Another section of students especially those who are religious is paranoid after it was alleged that the process is ‘satanic’.
The government on the other hand has continued to advice citizens to take part in the exercise insisting that Huduma Number will increase the efficiency, transparency and accountability in delivering services to Kenyans.
Some of the documents that one is required to carry during the registration of Huduma Number include; National Identification card (ID) Birth certificate Driving license and KRA pin. The exercise had been scheduled to end on the 17th of May.
