Over 12 months ago, a rejuvenated Governor John Nyagarama with a delegation mainly from his office walked to Manga stadium to do what he called routine inspection.

At the site, which commenced in 2014, Nyagarama said he will ensure everything is completed in June 2019, even saying Nyamira would be ready to bid for county games.

By then, at least Sh60 million had been used to erect a perimeter wall, levelling and perhaps putting in place washrooms inside the stadium.

"I assure you that the stadium will be in place by June 2019. We have budgeted for everything and the contractor will finish his job by then," he had said.

With over Sh100 million already utilised, the site remains the same with nothing having changed in the past one year as Nyamira people aspire for the ultra-modern stadium.

Residents in Manga are now wondering what have gone wrong for the past five years, even with clear evidence that budgeting was done.

"We are just seeing a wall, toilets and security lights. There is nothing going on. The governor lied to us. It's really disappointing that a huge amount can be used for erecting a fence," said Evans Nyakundi, a resident.

Manga MCA Enock Okero also seemed to be in darkness when addressing media on Tuesday. Just like residents, he could hardly tell what was going on.

"I will go back to the assembly and ask questions. It's wrong that for the last five years, nothing much has been done in the stadium," he said.

Without the help of National Government, counties like Machakos, Kisii, Narok, Meru and Kakamega have done modern stadiums at a cheaper cost.
