Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has said that his docket is doing all the best to deal with the locust invasion in the country.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Munya said that he has put in place different measures to ensure that the menace is a thing of the past.
He noted that he has mobilized an assessment team that is going around the country to determine extent of the damage caused by the insects so that the government can support those who were affected at the end of the day.
“Currently our focus is on dealing with the invasion. We are also mobilizing an assessment team that will go round assessing the damage and quantifying and then the gov’t will start working on how to support the people affected…” he said.
Munya added: "We have done a lot of work to contain the invasion (locust) and that is why you see most of the food basket areas are largely unaffected except Kitui."
Munya, who assumed office after the sacking of Embattled Mwangi Kiunjuri said that his office has allocated Sh.30 million towards the fight against the insects. He has since assured farmers that the situation is under control.
