Gikuyu Centre of Cultural Studies (GCCS), describes Nyeri woman based on a pre-independence era photo taken by British explorers as 'combative and unsmiling'.
The Kiambu woman is described as one who wears a 'radiant' smile while the Murang'a one is said to have a 'comfortable' smile.
Even with that short description of the three traditional Gikuyu women from the three Kikuyuland regions, it is easy to make an assumption that the Nyeri woman is not good especially for a wife.
However, nothing could be further from the truth. Let's break down the various aspects of the Nyeri woman that makes her the best wife ever.
1. According to GCCS, a Nyeri woman has muscular arms and fleshy thighs. What does this one imply? Well, it depends on how you may want to interpret it.
From a positive side, you will be able to conclude that her muscular arms enable her to go about her day-to-day domestic chores with ease. She can lift heavy loads on her own or with little assistance. That means she is highly independent because she is not a weakling. Having an independent wife, is it not what many men desire?
And on fleshy thighs, isn't it the epitome of beauty in any woman?
2. Clean and well groomed
Nyeri woman, GCCS says, maintained a clean-shaven head. This was seen as a sign of cleanliness even in other things that she chose to undertake daily.
3. Suspicious with strangers
GCCS documents that Nyeri woman would look at strangers 'with the usual Nyeri disdain'. In short, she could hardly fall for strangers irrespective of their motives.
This is a strength in the sense that a Nyeri wife can hardly be preyed on by adulterous men who make sexual advances to married women knowingly or otherwise.
4. No-nonsense
Nyeri woman's aggressive nature simply ensures she doesn't feed on crap from anyone. A woman from this region knows her worth and thus commands respect. Nyeri women are said to bring out the best in their husbands by challenging them to be hardworking and responsible.
