A section of Nyamira County parents have claimed that bhang is being sold in public in the region despite the ban imposed by government.
The angry parents told this writer on Saturday in Nyamira town that police officers are sleeping on their job, something that has made bhang dealers to sell their commodity fearlessly.
“It is worrying that bhang traders are selling bhang in public despite the sale and distribution of bhang being illegal in this country. Youths turned to be bhang smokers since they are easily accessing the commodity,” said Paul Omwansa.
Jemimah Gesare protested that her son, who is an Information Technology graduate, has turned to be a bhang smoker.
“I’m not enjoying the fruits of my son’s education who I sacrificed to take the school. Despite him being a graduate he has turned to be unproductive since he started smoking bhang,” she said.
Parents have now demanded police to conduct a crackdown to flush out bhang cartels from Nyamira.
"The security team must wake up and apprehend bhang cartels before the lives of children are ruined or else we hold demos," said Andrew Onchego.
