Political analyst and scholar Dr Richard Bosire has weighed in on what the political implications of the collapse of the governing Jubilee Party would be.
Speaking to K24 on Wednesday amid claims of an assassination plot against Deputy President Dr William Ruto, the University of Nairobi scholar argued that the implosion of the ruling party would fundamentally change the political dynamics in the country.
Dr Bosire appeared to suggest that the collapse, if it were to happen, would happen close to the elections as other parties have in the past.
"These parties don't collapse in the middle of a regime, they collapse towards the end, close to elections. If Jubilee collapsed today then it would create serious dynamics, you know, in the political scene which would be difficult to handle," said Dr Bosire.
The Uhuru-led party has been ravaged by factionalism with the 'Kieleweke' and 'Tangatanga' factions fueling speculation that the party may not survive until the 2022 elections.
DP Ruto has stated his intentions to contest the presidency in 2022 and has been traversing the country to drum up support for his bid.
Members of the so-called 'Kieleweke' team have accused the DP of defying President Uhuru Kenyatta by engaging in what they call early campaigns.
