Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have congratulated World Champion Eliud Kipchoge after he made history in Vienna, Austria.

In a tweet, Raila said he is proud of the athlete after he became the first man to run 42 Kilometresunder two hours. The elated athlete crossed the finishing line at 1.59.40.

"This is the stuff of history @EliudKipchoge. You captured the imagination of the whole world before this great feat and it will continue for a long time. Congratulations on becoming the first human to run a sub 2 hour marathon. 🇰🇪 is greater because of you! #INEOS159," he said.

Ruto said that he is proud to be part of history making. Ruto travelled to Vienna to cheer Kipchoge during the race. Kipchoge's wife and two kids were also present during the event. 

"A blistering 1.59.40! Congratulations @EliudKipchoge for the historic achievement in shattering the sub-two-hour barrier for the marathon; you are arguably the greatest runner of all time. #NoHumanIsLimited #INEOS159," Ruto said.

Other leaders who have congratulated Kipchoge are Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karau.

"You dared to dream what others wouldn't, you dared to go where others couldn't. Today, because of your determination, commitment & sacrifice, you have proved to the world that #NoHumanIsLimited.Congratulations #EliudKipchoge for making history. Kenya is proud of you! #INEOS159," Waiguru said.

"Congrats to our very own Eliud kipchoge #Eliud159 Proud of you!," Karua said.

"Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest human on earth!!!! the greatest athletic nation on earth. Welcome to the era of the sub-2 Marathon! Made possible by the Great Eliud Kipchoge. #NoHumanIsLimited #MkenyaDaimaEe Mungu Nguvu yetu," Amina tweeted.

President Uhuru Kenyatta called Kipchoge a day to the race.
