Celebrated radio presenter Leonard Mambo Mbotela has come out to criticize Kenyans for neglecting the late Joe Kadenge when he was still alive.
Mbotela who was he first radio presenter to coin the phrase “Kadenge na mpira", claimed Kenyans were only displaying hypocrisy by sending their condolence messages.
In an interview with the Standard, the former Voice of Kenya (VOK) journalist recognized President Uhuru Kenyatta for being among the few leaders who were genuinely concerned.
“Apart from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who visited him at his home and offered to support him, none of those falling over themselves to send condolences did anything for him.
“It is all pure show off and I term it hypocritical. The government takes the biggest flack for ignoring him and letting him down, yet he did so much for this country, Mbotela said as quoted by Standard.
According to Mbotela, it is painful and disappointing for those who were close to Kadenge to see the late footballer being heaped with praise after his death yet nothing was done to make his life better when he was still alive.
"It pains me that he died in the condition he did and those who knew Kadenge also share my pain and disappointment. We should not be praising him now that he is dead yet we did nothing to make his life better," he said.
Joe Kadenge died on Sunday morning and will be buried on July 20.
