Speaking on Saturday during Kusi Ideas Festival being held at Intare Conference Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, Raila said that Africa has solutions to its own problems.

He asked leaders from different countries to stand up so to their roles and affirmed that unless African nations fight for their rights, they will never realise development.

"Until the lion learns to write, the story of the hunt will always favour the hunter. The African lion needs to write its own story," he said.

He also called for the removal of trade barriers among African countries to ensure there is a smooth follow of goods and services across the entire continent.

He noted that African countries have the potential and they can support each other to attain their desire.

"We must breakdown the barriers that hinder Intra-African trade and bring down the cost of energy to make the processing of our raw materials viable so that we export processed goods. This will create jobs for our people and ultimately the African Lion will roar, " he said.

Rwanda's President Paul Kagame reiterated his words, saying Africa is a powerhouse of development.

"There is no magic wand in this, the progress that we have made in Rwanda can be referenced to the simple fact that we put people at the centre of everything we do," he noted.
