National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Friday led the house in dismissing the Senate, as the rift between the two legislative houses widens.
Muturi accused the Senate of overstepping its mandate by venturing into matters out of its jurisdiction, further noting that it is a duplication of the National Assembly.
He added that the Lower House is almost useless to the nation, considering that it can not pass any bill on its own, with the National Assembly being the only one with the privilege.
"The Senate cannot pass any bill on their own without bringing it to the people's representatives in the National Assembly," he said in Mombasa.
His remarks were echoed by the House Majority Leader Aden Duale who called upon the Attorney General to step in and interpret Section 93(2) on the role of the two sides.
"The AG is under obligation to call for an urgent meeting so that we know our boundaries. The Senate is a deception of the bicameral parliament, it's very weak," said that Garissa Township MP.
The leaders were speaking during a National Assembly leadership retreat.
Their remarks were echoed by House Minority Leader and Suba South lawmaker John Mbadi, in a function that was also attended by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
