Detectives are working around the clock to nail the two, with preliminary investigations showing that the printed the letter along Lang'ata Road before spreading in on social.

In the letter which has since been confirmed to be fake, the authors claim that some cabinet ministers from Mt Kenya region were planning to have Dr Ruto assassinated.

DCI George Kinoti has remained mute about the turn out of events even as it emerged that the two aides of DP William Ruto are being sought by the police.

“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardise them,” Mr Kinoti told the Sunday Nation.

“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.

A source at Harambee House Annex says that after the confirmation is made official, Dr Ruto is likely to kick out the two aides.

Their motive is still yet to be established. The ripple effect of the letter could be detrimental after a number of those ministers led by Peter Munya accused Ruto of witch-hunt.

“The risk of political backlash in central Kenya is real. Let’s wait and see what happens. But trust me, if it comes out that the letter was from Harambee Annex, I know the DP will crack the whip,” said the official.

While their names still remain confidential, David Mugonyi and Emmanuel Talam work in the communication department. Dennis Itumbi has also been working with them lately.

Investigative agencies have washed their hands off the matter by announcing they had invited the American Federal of Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in a well calculated move, leaving the ball in the Ruto camp to prove the assassination claims.

“We have been accused before of being biased in our work. We decided to bring an independent body to carry out investigations and identify the people who authored the suspicious letter and the origin of the allegations,” Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji told MPs on Thursday.
